Earlier this year, the PLI for advanced chemistry cells (ACC) received an overwhelming response from seven bidders, each bidding for the entire 10 GWh capacity. The disbursal of the subsidy is linked to an incremental domestic value addition criterion. This ranges from at least 25% within two years to 60% within five years of this subsidy scheme. The scheme aims to reduce import dependency in the grid-scale energy storage value chain while reducing the variability of RE generation.
The emphasis on e-buses in recent EV policies will likely drive demand for higher-capacity batteries. How will this PLI scheme complement these EV policies to accelerate EV adoption in public mobility?
