Given that the share of intermittent renewable energy (RE) generation in India’s grid is expected to triple from current levels by 2030, battery energy storage systems (BESS) will play a key role in facilitating RE integration. While India is considerably import-dependent for its BESS requirements, there is now a concerted policy push to indigenise supply chains, including manufacturing. Investments have been further facilitated by a decline in lithium prices, which has lowered input costs.
