Purpose

  • CEEW seeks to hire a suitable candidate for the position of Research Intern in the Jobs and Skills theme under the Responsible and Inclusive RE vertical of the Energy Transition team.
  • The Council’s Energy Transitions team is supporting India’s and emerging economies’ double leapfrog to a clean energy future, albeit in a socially equitable and environmentally responsible manner. The Responsible and Inclusive RE vertical focuses on ensuring that the transition towards renewable energy remains socially equitable and environmentally responsible. This includes identifying the differential impact of the transition on local marginalised communities and solving for challenges by developing policy interventions, highlighting employment prospects of the green economy and supporting skilling and re-skilling efforts.
  • Regularly track policy measures taken by the government and their implementation status related to Nature-based Solutions and Bioeconomic sectors.
  • The hired Research Intern shall support and expand The Council’s existing work on jobs and skills in RE.

Job Duties and Accountabilities

Research

  • Contribute to mapping and estimating the green jobs across the entire value chain in the renewable energy sector (solar, wind, biomass, bio-CNG etc.) by
    • Conducting primary surveys of private sector players (in-person or virtual) with support from senior colleagues
    • Analyse the data obtained for accuracy, inconsistencies, gaps etc. to develop the employment coefficients for different sectors
    • Identify the trends and conduct stakeholder discussion to understand the underlying reasons
  • Contribute to responsible deployment and expansion of renewable energy capacity by working in close coordination with various stakeholders. This would involve understanding and developing solutions for mitigating land conflicts, common resource utilisation, community participation in decision making etc. by
    • Conducting Literature Review
    • Identifying the key stakeholders to engage for data collection and dissemination and
    • Performing necessary analysis
  • Travel to states, whenever necessary, to conduct meetings or collect primary information.
  • To write briefs and issue notes which could be circulated among the state and central government officials and other stakeholders.

Selection Criteria

Education and key skills

  • Strong academic credentials, preferably a Master’s degree with developmental studies, political science, environment or public policy
  • Good understanding of various Indian policies and regulations around renewable energy, land, agriculture etc.
  • Strong analytical abilities and familiarity with research methods in the applicable fields.
  • Experience with impact assessment frameworks and systematic approaches such as cost-benefit analysis.
  • Experience in conducting primary surveys with relevant stakeholders preferred.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in word-processing, presentation and data analysis tools
