Solarisation of existing grid-connected can provide additional income to farmers, improve groundwater sustainability and reduce the power subsidy burden for the exchequer under favourable conditions. The tool prioritises districts where the government incurs a high power subsidy. A high density of electric pumps and a high level of feeder segregation are also favourable factors for this approach. Based on some early evidence of the approach contributing to groundwater overdraft, the tool also prioritises areas with better water availability for the approach.
