Sourav Dhar

Programme Lead

Sourav Dhar works as a Programme Lead in the sustainable mobility team at The Council. He has around 10 years of industry experience and his interest areas include Non-Motorized Transport (NMT), public transport, Public Bicycle Sharing System (PBS) and electric mobility among others.

Prior to joining The Council, Sourav worked with CEPT Research Development Consultancy (CRDC) as a Project Associate and as a Senior Transport Planner with the Directorate of Urban Land Transport, Government of Karnataka. He is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Town Planners, India.

Sourav completed his Master in Planning (M.Plan) with a specialisation in Urban Transport Planning and Management from CEPT University, Ahmedabad in 2010-12. During his Masters, he worked as an intern for the Centre of Excellence in Urban Transport, where he started developing interest towards Public Transport and PT users’ data analysis. According to Sourav, building infrastructures alone won't prevent people from switching to public transport; the presence of cars on the road shall be curtailed through restrictive measures and by behavioural shift.

Outside of work, Sourav is a sports lover and likes to try his hand on new recipes. Reading, watching movies, and caring for fish in his aquarium are some of the activities he enjoys during his free time.

  • What I believe in

A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It's where the rich use public transportation.
