Dr. Vaibhav Chaturvedi made a presentation on 'Modelling India's long term HFC emissions' at the side event on 'Business case for phasing down HFCs: Estimating costs and long term HFC emissions for India' in the Open Ended Working Group meeting of the Montreal Protocol. The meeting was held in Bangkok on 22 - 24 April 2015 and was jointly organized by NRDC, CEEW and IGSD.
CEEW has recently finished the first leg of a detailed study for estimating HFC emissions across sectors for India. The presentation focused on the detailed methodological approach as well as results for HFC as well as carbon emissions for India based on this study. Following were some of the key points highlighted:
- This is the first of its kind study for India and the estimates of future emissions are very useful
- CEEW team also aims to understand the quantitative implications of various proposals on Indian HFC emissions
- At the global level, there need to be many more studies looking at the total global warming impact of HFCs.
- Cost is the most critical piece of the debate and the next leg of this study will be focusing on this aspect.
