Roundtable with USAID Administrator Dr Rajiv Shah on "Alliance Building for Energy Access"
5 Mar 2013

CEEW presented opportunities and challenges in the off-grid energy sector at a roundtable with USAID Administrator, Dr Rajiv Shah, other USAID representatives and key stakeholders from the off-grid sector in Mumbai.

Over the past few months, researchers at CEEW  scanned India's past and current policies for providing energy access to all. They also travelled across a few Indian states - Bangalore, Kolkata, Bihar, Hyderabad and Delhi - to meet key stakeholders operating in the sector and observed existing off-grid activities in India. Equipped with background research and inputs from approximately 27 companies operating in the sector, CEEW in collaboration with USAID convened Indian organisations interested in supporting innovations aimed at improving energy access for the 400 million Indians without access to basic electricity. Participants discussed challenges faced in the Indian off-grid/energy access market; and explored need and possibilities for action-oriented collaboration.
